Background and Alternate Names

Human dopamine receptor D2 (DRD2) is a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) on cell surface that inhibits adenylyl cyclase activity. DRD2 contains seven transmembrane domains and is highly expressed in the anterior pituitary gland of the brain. DRD2 is the main receptor for most antipsychotic drugs and mutations in the gene encoding DRD2 have been associated with myoclonus dystonia and schizophrenia.

Alternate Names: D2DR, D2R
