Background and Alternate Names

Human endothelin receptor type B (EDNRB) is a 7-transmembrane G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR). EDNRB is a class A GPCR. EDNRB interacts with endothelins (ET-1, ET-2, ET-3), vasoactive peptides involved in cell proliferation, migration, and immune regulation. It can regulate critical biological processes such as the development and function of blood vessels, hormone production, and the stimulation of cell growth and proliferation. In cancer, EDNRB expression is often dysregulated and can act as a tumor suppressor or, in some contexts, contribute to tumor progression. EDNRB has been found to be a prognostic marker in kidney renal clear cell carcinoma and lung squamous cell carcinoma. Human EDNRB protein has >80% sequence homology with mouse EDNRB.
