Function: regulation of blood glucose levels and glucose homeostasis
Product Name: GCGR, Monoclonal Antibody

Background and Alternate Names

Human glucagon receptor (GCGR) is a 7-transmembrane G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR). GCGR is a class B GPCR. It plays a key role in glucose homeostasis and the pathophysiology of type 2 diabetes. GCGR is expressed in many tissues but most highly expressed in the liver and kidney including hepatocytes, renal nephron cells, adipocytes, and pancreatic islet α/β cells. Upon ligand binding a conformation change triggers signaling via guanine nucleotide-binding proteins (G proteins) and modulates the activity of down-stream effectors, such as adenylate cyclase to regulate blood glucose levels and glucose homeostasis. Mutations in GCGR are associated with higher risk of hypertension and obesity. Human GCGR protein has ~80% sequence homology with mouse GCGR.
