Background and Alternate Names

Human melanin-concentrating hormone receptor 1 (MCHR1), also known as MCH1, is a 7-transmembrane G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR). MCHR1 is a class A GPCR. The binding of melanin-concentrating hormone (MCH) to MCHR1 is involved with regulation of appetite, as well as possibly stress, anxiety and depression. MCHR1 has become a possible therapeutic target for the treatment of metabolic diseases, such as diabetes and obesity, due to its involvement in regulation of appetite. Human MCHR1 protein has >95% sequence homology with mouse MCHR1.

Alternate Names: MCH1, GPR24, MCH-1R, MCH1R, SLC-1, SLC1
